What Happens On Race Day
What happens on race day?Revolution Asia is keen to welcome and help all competitors to our races. It can be a daunting experience doing your first race, so to calm your nerves we have come up with a description of what happens on race day.
First, it is important that you bring all your gear - goggles, bathers, running shoes, hat, sunglasses, race number belt, sunscreen etc.
Registration
Line up in the registration queue when you arrive at the race venue. Please tell the registration staff your surname. You will receive a swim cap, timing wristband, and sponsor items.
Body Numbering
The body number writing area will be clearly marked with signs and be attended by marshals in fluorescent yellow vests. Remember your race number and queue in any line and the marshals will write your race number on your arms. Please make sure you have your arms ready for the number writing.
Timing Band
You will collect the Timing Band at Registration with your race kit. Officials will help you attach it to your wrist at body numbering. It must be attached to your wrist for the duration of the race until you cross the finish line. An official will help you to remove the timing band after you finish the race.
Pre Race Briefing
The race briefing is held at the Swim Start and will give you a course description, rules and any new event details. The race briefing is held in English and Cantonese. The briefing is usually held approx. 10-15mins prior to race start.
Race Start
There is a race start area marked by flags, which will have an official giving directions. Depending on the race, there will either be a mass start or wave starts. Listen carefully to the officials to ensure you start in the correct wave. The wave starts have approximately 40-60 competitors. It is a good idea that you 'self-seed' so of you are a slow swimmer start at the back, while if you are a good swimmer start at the front.
Swim Leg
The swim buoys mark the course, look up for direction and if you are ever in trouble raise one arm for the lifesavers.
Swim to Run Transition
Competitors try to do this as quickly as possible. Try taking off your swim cap and goggles whilst running to your basket, then put on your running shoes (stretch laces are a good idea) and run towards the run exit. Remember men must wear a top during the run!
Run Exit
A sign clearly marks the run exit but if you are ever confused please ask a transition official.
Run Course
There will be a drink station on the run, approximately half way.
Finish
The best part of the race! Once you cross the line the officials will remove your timing band.
Competitor Refreshments
Drinks and post race food is available from the refreshment tent once you have completed the race.
Event Atmosphere
Now's the time to sit back and enjoy the sun, and swap stories with your friends.
Presentations
